Fear.
If there is total attention at the moment of physical or psychological danger there is no fear.Fear happens either before or
after the active present.Fear arises when there is an avoidance of fact
and that very escape is fear.Physical self protection is normal, sane, healthy. But psychologically, inwardly fear begins when there is desire to be secure,to have permanency in relationship,in action,in knowledge,in outward and inward things.Fear is a movement of thought
arising from that what has happened in the past and from that there is
projection of what might happen in the future. So thought is the source of fear.If there is no thought there is no fear.In love energy flows
from the heart towards the other.Thought is not involved in this.So love is not opposite to fear.Bravery is the opposite of fear in which fear is there in mind but suppressed. Bravery is not the outcome of understanding of fear.Bravery is a thought.Thought creates fear and tries to solve it.
But to understand any psychological anomaly we require an unconditioned
mind that is free of content of thought. In that passive total awareness
the total structure of fear woven by thought is revealed to us in all its
detail and in the very revelation of fear in awareness is the withering of it because thought is not possible in total awareness and without thought
there is no possibility of fear.So escaping from a fact is fear and this is a pathological movement of mind, where as stilling of thought when we encounter a problem is a physiological response. This is possible in
Self-Enquiry because we are bringing the element of awareness in it.
